About the Role

We are recruiting to the role of Nurse Practitioner / Clinical Nurse Specialist in Thames Emergency Department.

In this role you will be responsible for seeing and treating patients presenting to the department with a range of conditions, with the support and guidance of our SMO team.

Registration as a Nurse Practitioner is preferable however we would also consider Clinical Nurse Specialists who are willing to undertake Nurse Practitioner training.

About the Service

Thames Hospital is a secondary level hospital 100 kilometres north of Hamilton.

It serves the Thames, Coromandel Peninsula, Hauraki and Paeroa areas.Thames Hospital has a 24 hour Emergency Department with 21 beds as well as a 35 bed General Medicine Ward.

Specialty consults are provided by Waikato Hospital.

About you

Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role :

Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand; inclusive of scope of practice

A current practising certificate with the Nursing Council of New Zealand.

Significant clinical experience, with the last two years being in the specific speciality

Expected to have met expert level of practice on the Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP), and then participate in the Senior Nurses PDRP.

Registration as a Nurse Practitioner or willingness to work towards this.

Involved in research, teaching and innovation that has changed clinical practice.

Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action

Thames Hospital is a modern 50-bed secondary care facility offering a comprehensive range of services, including an emergency department, inpatient care, day surgery, an infusion unit, rehabilitation services, birthing unit and low-acuity mental health care.

Our hospital boasts 24-hour laboratory and radiology services, including advanced CT imaging.

As an accredited training hub, we support 5th and 6th-year medical students from Auckland University, PGY2 House Officers, and registrars in Rural Hospital Medicine and General and Acute Care Medicine.

Telehealth is expanding at Thames, supporting inpatient care, outpatient clinics, and emergency services like stroke thrombolysis.
