About The Team
The Grid Operations team plays a vital role in the safe and continuous operation of New Zealand\'s electricity network. Based across the National Grid Operations Centres (NGOCs) in Auckland and Christchurch, the team manages the real-time operation of grid assets, including the HVDC link under Cook Strait, while ensuring compliance with the Grid Owner\'s CODE obligations. Their core function is to handle planned and unplanned outages, communicate with key stakeholders, and monitor asset status via SCADA to maintain operational safety and efficiency.
About The Opportunity - Commencing January 2026
As a Grid Asset Controller, you\'ll be at the heart of real-time energy management, overseeing the continuous and safe operation of the national grid. Whether you\'re responding to unexpected events like severe weather or ensuring the smooth functioning of core grid and regional equipment, you\'ll thrive in a fast-paced environment where every day brings new challenges.
After completing a comprehensive one-to-two-year training programme, you\'ll take on key responsibilities, including :
Because electricity flows around the clock, our teams work a rotating roster that includes nights and weekends. Typically, this involves two consecutive day shifts followed by two night shifts, alternating between 6 : 00 am and 6 : 00 pm starts, with 3.5 days off in between - giving you ample time to rest and recharge.
