The focus is on handling complaints against government agencies, undertaking investigations and inspections, and encouraging good administration.

The Ombudsman is independent and impartial, with the goal of fairness for all.

#### Mo to matou tira – About the teamThe Strategic Advice Team supports the Office by providing high level policy and practice advice.

#### Mo te turanga - About the roleThe role of the Principal Advisors in the Strategic Advice Team is to provide high level strategic advice on matters relating to policy and professional practice, particularly in the Ombudsmen Act, official information and protected disclosures areas.

This includes external advice and submissions on matters such as Bills, Cabinet papers and agency policy and procedure, as well as internal advice and support for our operational practice.

Reporting to the Chief Practice Advisor, this is an exciting opportunity to contribute your expertise on matters affecting the Ombudsmen's jurisdiction and practice.

#### He korero mou – About youTo be successful in this role you will ideally have :

• A deep understanding of the Ombudsman's jurisdiction, particularly under the Ombudsmen Act, official information and protected disclosures legislation.
• Complaints resolution and investigation expertise and experience would be an advantage.
• An ability to think strategically and see the 'bigger picture', including key risks and opportunities and long term consequences for the Ombudsman role.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and analytical skills.
• An ability to manage competing demands and deliver effectively under time pressure.
• A demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships and effective networks across the Office and with external stakeholders.
• Proven experience motivating, mentoring and providing advice to staff to support their success.
