The role | Te mahi
As Development Manager, you'll manage a dynamic portfolio of prospects, using thoughtful strategies to identify, engage, and cultivate potential donors.
You'll work closely with campus colleagues to align fundraising priorities and lead major gift conversations.
Alumni events will be key opportunities to spark new connections and strengthen existing relationships.
With a strong understanding of advancement best practices, you'll monitor progress toward campaign goals, maintain accurate records, and ensure each prospect has a tailored engagement plan.
Guided by DARO's Prospect Management Guidelines, you'll also bring new ideas and a fresh perspective to our fundraising approach, staying attuned to national and global trends.

You're a natural relationship-builder with an authentic approach that builds trust, earns respect, and creates meaningful connections across our diverse international alumni community.
We're looking for someone with :
A tertiary qualification in a relevant field.
Proven success in fundraising or in building relationships with corporate partners and high-net-worth individuals.
Confidence and credibility to engage with a wide range of people, groups, and organisations.
Cultural sensitivity and diplomacy in all interactions.
Discretion, a global perspective, and the ability to inspire and collaborate with others.
Other key skills and qualities include :
Strong understanding of strategies for engaging alumni communities.
Excellent communication skills—verbal, written, and presentation—to connect with diverse audiences.
Global mindset and appreciation for diverse perspectives.
Passion for the impact of philanthropy at the University of Otago.
Flexibility to work outside normal hours, including travel and evening events.
Commitment to culturally safe and respectful practices, with an understanding of Te Ao Maori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and Pasifika values.

This is a part-time position
The salary range for this role is $96,587 to $105,532, Top of Range $114,474.
You must have the right to live and work in Aotearoa New Zealand to be considered for this position.
