As the Commercial Finance Manager for HEB Construction’s Equipment & Transport business unit, you will be a strategic partner to operational leaders, driving financial performance and commercial outcomes. This role bridges finance, systems and admin, delivering insights that support decision-making, optimise asset utilisation, and enhance profitability across the plant, fleet and transport functions.
You will lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning & analysis processes, while ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and internal controls. Your ability to translate complex financial data into actionable recommendations will empower stakeholders to make informed decisions that align with HEB’s strategic goals.
The role can be based in either Auckland or Tauranga.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Equipment & Transport leadership to analyse financial performance and identify opportunities for operational efficiency and cost control; and ability to identify issues and provide solutions.
- Lead the development of budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial plans for the business unit.
- Deliver commercial insights on asset utilisation, maintenance costs, capex investments, and transport logistics.
- Review and approve commercial proposals, tenders, and contracts related to equipment procurement and transport services.
- Provide financial modelling and scenario analysis to support strategic initiatives and capital investments.
- Monitor and report on KPIs including asset ROI, fuel efficiency, maintenance spend, and transport margins.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting, cash flow forecasting, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance company policies.
- Liaise with external auditors (if required) and support audit readiness for the Equipment & Transport unit.
- Mentor and develop finance team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
- Provide oversight for the development and maintenance of systems for accuracy and timely reporting.
What You Bring
CA / CPA qualified with a tertiary degree in Finance, Accounting, or Commerce.Minimum 5–10 years’ experience in commercial finance, ideally within heavy civil construction, transport and logistics, or asset-intensive industries.Strong leadership and team development skills to support operational goals.Proven ability to partner with operational teams and influence non-finance stakeholders.Strong accounting (Big-4 experience beneficial), financial modelling, forecasting, and analytical (FP&A) skills.Advanced Excel and experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP S4 / HANA) and BI tools.Deep understanding of accounting treatments for tangible fixed assets (NZ IAS 16) and other relevant standards.Experience managing capital-intensive budgets.Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex financial concepts.High integrity, attention to detail, and a proactive mindset.Ideal Candidate
