The Role
As Pouarahi – Executive Director Maori, you will be a key member of our Executive Leadership Team, leading our Kaupapa Maori Strategy and embedding matauranga Maori across our teaching, research, and organisational culture.
This role carries the privilege and responsibility of strengthening enduring relationships with mana whenua, iwi, hapu, and Maori communities, ensuring their aspirations shape our direction.
You will champion initiatives that create culturally sustaining learning environments, enabling akonga Maori to thrive academically, personally, and culturally.
Key responsibilities
Lead and embed Kahukura kaupapa Maori strategy across programme and organisational culture.
Build and maintain long-term relationships with iwi, hapu, and mana whenua.
Provide visionary and strategic leadership, guiding the organisation towards Maori success in vocational education.
Champion frameworks and initiatives that support Maori academic, personal and cultural development.
About You
We are seeking a strategic and values-driven leader with deep knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and proven experience in Maori-Crown partnership.
You will bring proficiency in te reo Maori and tikanga, the ability to embed kaupapa Maori practice across complex organisations, and experience influencing sector-wide change.
Your leadership will inspire kaimahi, uplift akonga, and strengthen identity and belonging across EIT.
You will be a skilled relationship-builder, able to align institutional intent with iwi aspirations through authentic engagement and shared decision-making.
