Job description

PR & Communications Coordinator – Destination Great Lake Taupõ

Overview

Destination Great Lake Taupõ (DGLT) is the tourism organisation responsible for promoting and developing the Taupõ Region as a premier visitor destination.

Through the Love Taupõ brand, DGLT aims to attract visitors, enhance the tourism experience, and support sustainable growth by showcasing the natural beauty, cultural richness, and diverse recreational opportunities of the region.

At DGLT, we live by the values of kaitiakitanga, manaakitanga, and kotahitanga.

We work with integrity, care deeply about our place, and believe in telling authentic stories that celebrate the natural energy of our region and the people who make it special.

Role Overview

Help Tell the Story of Taupõ – Join Us as PR & Communications Coordinator.

Bring Taupõ's stories to life!

As our PR & Communications Coordinator, you'll support Destination Great Lake Taupõ (DGLT) in delivering vibrant communications and well-run events that showcase the region.

From coordinating media visits and familiarisation trips to creating content and supporting our PR agency, you'll help share the magic of Taupõ with Aotearoa and the world.

This hands-on, entry-level role is perfect for someone passionate about tourism, storytelling, and building a career in destination marketing.

Strategic PR & Communications

Support the delivery of PR activity in collaboration with our agency partner.

Coordinate familiarisation trips (media & trade), including logistics, itineraries, and operator liaison.

Host familiarisation trips when required.

Ensure media and partners are well briefed and hosted to achieve campaign objectives.

Maintain up-to-date media contact lists and event calendars.

Storytelling & Publications

Identify story opportunities across the region and assist with drafting or sourcing content.

Arrange photoshoots, videography, and asset gathering as needed.

Upload and update event, industry, and news content on the Love Taupõ website.

Contribute to the production of annual reports, mid-year reports, board updates, and other publications.

Events

Support the delivery of DGLT events, including invitations, RSVPs, logistics, run sheets, venue / supplier coordination, and budget tracking.

Ensure post-event actions are completed, including evaluations, follow-up communications, and publishing event highlights online.

Maintain event records, photo libraries, and content for future use.

Ensure accuracy and timely delivery of the events calendar.

General Marketing & Support

Regularly update the CRM to ensure accurate and relevant records.

Stay informed on industry trends and developments in PR, media, and social media.

Represent DGLT at events, workshops, and exhibitions as required.

Your strengths

Highly self-motivated

Passionate and energetic

Collaborative team player

An adopter of technology

Reliable and trustworthy

Qualifications

To thrive in this role, you will need to hold a tertiary qualification (Diploma or higher) in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field—ideally with a focus on destination marketing or media.

You'll bring some exposure to PR, communications, events, or tourism through study, internships, or work experience, and be confident using digital tools like Canva, content management systems, and social media platforms.

Familiarity with project management or CRM tools such as Monday.com or HubSpot is a bonus, and a willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced, collaborative environment is essential.

What's in it for you?

A team who love the place we work.

Care for yourself with a wellness program including discounted memberships.

Give back by attending community planting days.

Additional Christmas & Birthday leave

Family-friendly work environment with flexibility to work from home.

Emphasis on diversity and collaboration among colleagues.

Engaging social activities and events to build a strong work community.

Start Your Storytelling Journey in the Heart of Taupõ
