New Charitable Company – Subsidiary of the Problem Gambling Foundation of New Zealand
The Problem Gambling Foundation of New Zealand (PGF) is establishing a new charitable company to extend its reach and strengthen its impact in reducing gambling harm and addiction-related challenges. Our mission is to improve mental health and wellbeing across Aotearoa by supporting individuals, families, and communities.
This new entity will be a 100% owned subsidiary of PGF, with a clear purpose : to advance social outcomes through innovative, sustainable, and purpose-driven initiatives that make a real difference in people’s lives.
We are seeking an outstanding individual to join the founding Board of Directors, with the intention of taking on the Chair role as the organisation evolves and grows.
About the role
In its formative stage, the Board will include experienced members transitioning from the PGF Board of Trustees. As Director (Chair-Designate), you will provide strong leadership in shaping governance structures, ensuring accountability, and guiding strategic priorities.
This is a rare opportunity to reshape an organisation with a strong legacy, working alongside passionate and experienced trustees to create lasting social impact. You will be part of a movement that seeks to influence positive change in one of New Zealand’s most pressing areas of social wellbeing — protecting whānau, strengthening communities, and enhancing mental health and wellbeing across the country.
Key responsibilities
Provide effective governance oversight as part of the founding Board.
Chair Board meetings (once formally appointed as Chair).
Lead the Board in setting strategy and monitoring performance against charitable objectives.
Ensure effective risk management and financial stewardship.
Foster strong relationships within PGF, with stakeholders, and with external partners.
Uphold the highest standards of governance, ethics, and accountability.
About you
We are looking for a leader who shares our passion for social justice and community wellbeing, and who brings :
Proven governance experience in not-for-profit, charitable, or commercial boards.
Business acumen and an understanding of operating models that balance mission with sustainability.
A strategic mindset, with the ability to anticipate opportunities and risks.
Strong leadership skills, including experience chairing boards or committees (or the capacity to step into a Chair role).
Deep commitment to the values and mission of the Problem Gambling Foundation of New Zealand.
Remuneration
This is a remunerated governance role, with fees set at a rate commensurate with not-for-profit board positions.
