The Organisational Development team at New Zealand Police is focused on enabling positive, strategic change across systems, people, and processes.

As a Senior Advisor – Organisational Development, you will bring practitioner expertise and lead the design and delivery of high-impact organisational interventions that build capability, enhance effectiveness, and foster an inclusive and high-performing culture.

You will proactively initiate and manage Organisational Development projects that align structure, strategy, and people to achieve sustainable outcomes.

Your ability to work autonomously while engaging collaboratively across the organisation will be key to understanding business needs and delivering meaningful, accessible, and engaging initiatives.

Operational insight and experience are highly valued, as they inform the development of practical, relevant solutions that support our people and organisational goals.

Key Accountabilities :

  • Lead and mentor Organisational Development Advisors to successfully deliver strategic projects and initiatives, while actively supporting their professional growth and capability development.
  • Proactively initiate and scope proposals for continuous improvement, grounded in organisational insights and aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships across the organisation through effective stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
  • Design and deliver strategic Organisational Development projects using evidence-based methodologies, balancing best practice with a deep understanding of organisational culture and context.
  • Produce high-quality governance and executive-level papers that clearly communicate insights, recommendations, and strategic direction.
  • Maintain currency in Organisational Development subject matter through ongoing professional development, staying connected to emerging research, public sector practice, and innovative concepts.
  • Contribute to building capability across workgroup and the business.

  • Demonstrated experience as an Organisational Development practitioner or in a closely related field, with a proven ability to lead and deliver strategic initiatives that drive cultural, structural, or capability-focused change.
  • Organisational experience that provides strategic and operational insights to inform and shape impactful Organisational Development initiatives.
  • Proven ability to translate complex theoretical concepts into practical, scalable solutions that drive meaningful organisational outcomes.
  • Strong capability to lead and collaborate across diverse teams and workgroups, fostering alignment and shared ownership of outcomes.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with a track record of cultivating trusted networks across the organisation.
  • High level of adaptability and resilience, with the ability to lead through ambiguity, manage shifting priorities, and deliver under pressure

  • Current CPK at the rank of the vacancy you are applying for (Constabulary only).

  • Agree to enrol in a leadership programme at the advertised level, at a future date or

  • This role is based in the Wellington area.
  • Some travel may be required

    Utu a-tau | Salary

    This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $110,425 and $117,014 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
