Water Engineer - Wastewater and Stormwater

Role overview and project scope for wastewater and stormwater engineers at multiple levels (Intermediate, Senior, and Team Lead) within a consultancy that serves councils, government agencies, and private clients across New Zealand.
A solid and growing pipeline of wastewater and stormwater projects includes pump stations and pipe design for residential, commercial, and government contracts.
What Youll Do
Design and upgrade stormwater and wastewater networks, including reticulation systems and open-channel solutions.
Deliver infrastructure for pump stations, rising mains, gravity sewers, detention and treatment systems.
Develop design packages for large-scale pipe systems, including hydraulic design & modelling, pipe sizing, alignments, and material selection.
Incorporate sustainable stormwater features, such as rain gardens, wetlands, soakage systems, and detention ponds.
Prepare and support resource consent applications and liaise with councils and government authorities.
(For Senior and Team Lead roles)
Manage project delivery, lead technical teams, and coordinate with stakeholders including iwi, regulatory bodies, developers, and contractors.
What Youll Bring
Bachelors degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
Experience in the design of wastewater and stormwater systems, including pump stations and pipelines.
Familiarity with regional and national regulatory frameworks, including council and government processes.
A collaborative working style, strong communication skills, and commitment to delivering practical, sustainable outcomes.
(For senior / lead roles)
Experience managing projects and mentoring junior engineers.
Salary
Intermediate Engineer : NZ$92,000 – NZ$105,000
Senior Engineer : NZ$115,000 – NZ$125,000
Team Lead : NZ$125,000 – NZ$155,000
