We provide expert advice on how technology can be leveraged to support Police's strategies and turn concepts into reality through collaborative development.We are currently seeking a Lead Developer to drive the design, development, delivery, and maintenance of our low-code platform Appian, used for operational workflows.As the Lead Developer – Appian, you will work closely with product owners and solution architects to ensure our applications meet NZ Police standards.

This includes the delivery of appropriate design documentation and the consideration of industry best practices.The Lead Developer – Appian will also provide mentorship and guidance to other members of the product team and wider ICT community.

This will include directing work and providing support and feedback for the low-code developers in your team.

You will promote software best practices by sharing your knowledge of low-code delivery in the SDLC.

You will be part of the wider Development Centre of Expertise and will support the progress and improvement of the development practice at NZ Police.You will have strong Agile experience and be at the cutting edge of the Appian low-code platform, ensuring we are utilising the latest features and best practices, while acting as a key advocate for its adoption.This role will be working exclusively with the Appian platform so experience in this is desirable.Key AccountabilitiesTakes technical responsibility for the delivery of software in products or projects.Provides advice to the relevant Product Managers and Technical Product Owners on the ongoing strategic direction to improve the platforms and the team capabilities and capacity.Leads system design activities for strategic, large and complex delivery work.Works with internal business customers to understand problems and design solutions.Works with other leads and management to build a strong development team, understanding future work and required capability for successful delivery.Contributes to organisational standards and processes for software development.Stays up to date with new and upcoming technology, with the intent of improving development practices at NZ Police.Provides 3rd level technical support for the platform.What you'll bringProven experience in a similar role and a keen interest in low-code application development.Demonstrated experience in software development, including proficiency in at least one high-level programming language (e.g., Java, JavaScript).

A solid understanding of software engineering principles to complement low-code development in Appian.Experience with integration of developed solutions with other application systems.Solid understanding and experience with design patterns and software architecture.Ability to work collaboratively across the organisation and adapt to changing requirements.Experience leading software development teams along with coaching and mentoring teams.Proficiency in Agile methodologies and product development.Ability to think strategically, planning for the long term as well as today.Excellent customer and stakeholder engagement skills – able to break technical concepts down into simple terms for a range of non-technical audiences.Specific platform certification (Appian) is required but not a pre-requisite to apply, as training will be provided, and certification exam can be completed once in the role.Special requirementsApplicants must be a NZ Citizen, Resident or have valid work rights for NZ to apply.A relevant tertiary qualification is preferred.The role is based at Police ICT, Porirua CBD.This role requires an on-call element, which may mean working outside of regular business hours.
