About the role
This role is suited for an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist with an interest in working with older adults.
Our clients include those with dementia exhibiting behavioral and psychological symptoms, as well as older adults experiencing late-onset, moderate to severe mental health issues, or chronic mental illness with physical frailty.
You will have opportunities to lead service improvement initiatives and support the growth of medical and health professionals through teaching and mentoring.
Peer review, informal supervision, and collegial support are provided.
You will work alongside two other Psychiatrists and a dedicated team of senior nursing and allied health staff, using a case-management model.
Services are provided outpatient and in the community, with referrals to inpatient wards as needed.
This permanent, part-time position (0.6 FTE) offers opportunities within the wider mental health service to increase hours.
About the Team / Service / Location
You will join a cohesive team passionate about improving health outcomes for older adults.
The multidisciplinary team includes Psychiatrists specialized in older age, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Community Psychiatric Nurses, and a Nurse Practitioner.
The service primarily sees clients in community or outpatient settings.
The team also admits to a small number of inpatient Psychogeriatric beds and provides consults to acute physical health wards at Hutt Hospital.
We collaborate closely with Geriatric Medicine and other mental health services across the district.
The Capital, Coast, and Hutt Valley district is centrally located in Wellington, employing over 6,000 staff.
We operate Wellington Regional Hospital, Hutt Valley Hospital, Kenepuru Hospital, and the Kapiti Health Centre.
About you
Vocational registration in Psychiatry with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
FRANZCP or equivalent qualification, with registration for vocational practice with MCNZ
Experience working in multidisciplinary teams
Additional training or certification in Psychiatry of Old Age (desirable)
