Policy Analyst - Data Insights

Salary range & band : General Salary Range F : $76,463 to $89,215 depending on skills and experience
About The Role – Korero Mo Te Turanga
We're looking for a data-savvy Policy Analyst to join our Data Insights team within the Strategy Insights & Evidence directorate of Policy & Trade.
This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives on using data and evidence to shape policy that supports New Zealand's primary industries.
Responsibilities
Analyse economic, trade, market, consumer and business performance data to inform policy development
Identify trends and emerging issues using market, consumer, and sector performance data as well as stakeholder insights
Develop evidence-based, cost-effective policy options for government action
Support the development of legislative and regulatory instruments
Collaborate across MPI, with other agencies and with stakeholders to deliver cross-government policy initiatives.
About You – Mou
You'll bring strong analytical skills and a passion for using data to drive better policy outcomes.
You'll be comfortable working with complex information and translating it into clear, actionable advice.
We're especially interested in candidates who have :
Qualifications
2–5 years of experience in policy analysis or a similar field
A tertiary qualification in economics, commerce / business, statistics, data science, business analytics or a related discipline
Experience working with data to inform policy decisions
Strong written and verbal communication skills
A collaborative mindset and ability to work across teams and sectors
Familiarity with government processes and regulatory systems.

The Data Insights team provides strategic thinking and policy advice grounded in evidence.
We work closely with other directorates, government agencies, Maori organisations, and industry stakeholders to ensure our policy delivers real-world impact and supports the success of New Zealand's food and fibre sectors.
