Overview
Lead Engineer – Application Support at Westpac New Zealand. The role supports critical banking systems, particularly the Transaction Lifecycle Management (TLM) application and reporting platforms.
Responsibilities
- Provide Level 1–4 support, including after‑hours on‑call roster participation.
- Own the end‑to‑end delivery lifecycle : gather business requirements, technical analysis, discovery, planning, vendor coordination, testing, and production deployment under an Agile framework.
- Translate business needs into technical specifications and ensure alignment with reconciliation workflows.
- Oversee testing artefacts, ensuring quality and compliance before business sign‑off.
- Conduct root cause analysis, implement long‑term solutions to improve platform reliability and performance.
- Maintain data pipelines for reliable ingestion, transformation, and reporting across reconciliation systems.
- Lead SOX compliance, patching, upgrades, disaster‑recovery protocols, and certificate rollovers.
- Identify and manage delivery or operational risks, communicate them clearly, and collaborate with stakeholders to mitigate impact.
- Document requirements, technical specs, deployment plans, test results, support procedures, and change logs to ensure traceability and audit readiness.
- Engage cross‑functional teams (architecture, ETL, business units) to deliver integrated solutions.
- Drive automation initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring, guide support engineers, share best practices, and foster a culture of engineering excellence.
Qualifications
Experience in incident management, system monitoring, and application support (Level 1–4) and reporting platforms.Strong understanding of reconciliation and investigation processes, Wrap Rec, payments, and banking products (Murex etc).Experience with SaaS or cloud computing applications and reporting knowledge.Proven track record in leading complex multi‑stakeholder initiatives with measurable business outcomes.Hands‑on experience with system testing, test planning, and change / project management.Strong judgment in recognizing and communicating risks early to mitigate impact.Familiarity with SOX compliance, patching, upgrades, backup / recovery, disaster‑recovery testing, and certificate management.Passion for driving automation strategies and continuous improvement initiatives.Ability to lead and mentor engineers, and drive technical excellence.Desirable Experience
Financial services or banking industry background (reconciliation, SWIFT, ISO20022, payments).Experience with Azure or AWS, large‑scale distributed systems, and Agile delivery tools (Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow).Project management and change management knowledge.Experience with test automation.Experience with SWIFT.Tools
