Graduate AML Regulator – Wellington

The Regulatory and Identity Services branch is responsible for regulatory systems and functions related to charities, gambling, anti-money laundering and countering financing of terrorism (AML / CFT), digital safety, passports, civil registries, citizenship and identity management.

Join a strong, multi-discipline group that supervises AML / CFT sectors to protect New Zealand businesses from being used by criminals to launder money and finance terrorism.

As part of the Regulatory Services in the Regulation and Identity Services Branch, we are the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Group within one of New Zealand Government's larger regulatory bodies.

As a risk-based, responsive modern regulator, we promote effective regulatory outcomes through engagement, education and enforcement to the businesses we supervise in an increasingly complex, borderless digital world.

Based in Wellington, the Graduate regulator role is a great opportunity for someone looking to take the first step into their career as a regulator in what is a dynamic and interesting AML / CFT regulatory system.

Your main responsibility will be to support the operational supervision of a diverse range of businesses captured under the AML / CFT Act and contribute to DIA supervision, education, and monitoring of regulated sectors in a robust, risk-based and targeted way.

You will provide vital administration and logistical support to our teams; contribute to the group's project work and be engaged at varying levels in the compliance mahi that the AML / CFT operational teams oversee.

You will be outcome focused and enjoy being part of a team who are continuously improving our regulatory practice and performance.

As a Graduate Regulator entering the role, the preferred person will ideally have the following experience, knowledge, and skills :

A general awareness of the AML / CFT Act is desirable (but not essential)

The ability to apply legislation and other technical information in an operational context to educate supervised entities, lift compliance and encourage best practice.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to make strong evidence-based decisions.

A strong administration management skillset – including workflow coordination and email / correspondence management.

A strong commitment to customer service and the ability to engage positively and build relationships.

Attention to detail and demonstrated drive, enthusiasm, self-motivation and resilience.

An appetite to learn and the ability to contribute as a member of a national team
