  • You will be working in the Advice & Legislation Team, one of five teams that make up the Department of Corrections (Ara Poutama Aotearoa) Legal Services Unit. We are a high-performing team of experienced lawyers who are supportive, collaborative, and generous with our time and expertise. We value professional growth and cultural capability and work together to deliver advice that makes a real difference.You will work on interesting and diverse issues such as prisoners' rights, the delivery of health services, strategic criminal justice projects, and the policy-to-law process. The work has a direct impact on the lives of people in Aotearoa and is often high-profile.

  • We will be looking for the following skills, knowledge and abilities outlined in your application :
  • Experience or strong interest in government legal work and the justice sector.
  • Attention to detail and reliability in providing accurate, practical legal advice.
  • Ability to analyse complex issues and develop clear, defensible legal opinions.
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams.
  • Familiarity with the Treaty of Waitangi / te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to the work of government agencies.
  • Utu ā-tau | Salary
  • The midpoint of the salary range is $93,688 per annum and the full range (85%-120%) is $79,635- $112,426 per annum.
