Your Role
Key responsibilities include :
Providing expert legal advice and representation to clients across various legal matters.
Drafting legal documents, conducting negotiations, and representing clients in court proceedings.
Working effectively with senior team members, taking instructions, and seeking clarification as needed.
Ensuring high-quality, error-free, and grammatically correct work through proofreading.
Collaborating with colleagues at all levels and sharing knowledge.
Developing proficiency with tools such as Netdocs, ActionStep, and Spinika.
Meeting compliance expectations including Conduct and Client Care Rules, AML, and Data Protection & Privacy.
Contributing to business development activities and assisting senior lawyers with client management.
Maintaining accurate time recording and fee recovery habits to meet financial and business performance goals.
Upholding Tompkins Wake's culture, policies, and health and safety standards.
About You
The company is looking for :
A completed New Zealand Law Degree.
Admittance as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, following completion of a Professional Legal Studies Course and obtaining a Certificate of Completion from the New Zealand Council of Legal Education.
Practical experience in preparing legal documents and conducting legal research.
Attention to detail, ethics, integrity, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to handle various legal tasks competently and provide advice under supervision.
Training & Development
Participation in The TW Academy with high attendance at internal CPD sessions and completion of training requirements.
Development of a CPD plan including goal setting with a supervisor annually.
Completion of at least one article per year.
Presentation to peers at least once a year and to the team at least twice a year.
Regularly seeking and receiving constructive feedback.
Developing a good relationship with a mentor.
Career Progression
Proactive career management with opportunities to gain experience and develop skills at a 1-3 year level in relevant practice areas.
Exposure to business development activities and client management under senior supervision.
