About the role Mō te tūnga | About the role
This is a permanent social work position located at the Upper Hutt site of Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children. The role requires a qualified, registered social worker who is passionate about the wellbeing of tamariki and rangatahi and who can work collaboratively with families, whānau and community agencies to support safe and thriving outcomes.
Job Responsibilities What you will do
- Engage directly with families and whānau to assess their needs and co‑design support plans.
- Collaborate with other social services, health and education agencies to provide a cohesive, child‑centred approach.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of tamariki by monitoring risk and facilitating timely interventions.
- Maintain accurate and professional case record keeping in the organisation’s systems.
- Report and advocate on behalf of families to seek community resources and policy solutions.

Full registration with the New Zealand Social Work Registration Board (SWRB)A social work qualification recognised by the SWRBA full, clean, current driver’s licenceExcellent written and oral communication skillsDemonstrated resilience, problem‑solving techniques and flexibilityExcellent time management and organisational skillsStrong PC and Microsoft Office Suite skills with excellent report writing skillsUnderstanding and appreciation of cross‑cultural practices, particularly tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples’ cultureRemuneration What you will gain
Annual remuneration ranges between $81,206 and $97,557, depending on experience.
