• The Volunteer Payments Project is a key initiative within the Organisational Development Directorate of Fire and Emergency New Zealand. Its purpose is to refresh and align the volunteer payment landscape so it reflects our organisational approach to volunteerism and strategic priorities.As Project Manager, you will lead a programme of work that addresses inequities in legacy payment arrangements, reviews and updates existing entitlements, and designs a clear and sustainable framework for the future.Reporting to the Manager Remuneration and Benefits, you will oversee all aspects of the project, including governance and reporting, budget and resource management, engagement and consultation, and delivery of project milestones. You will also work closely with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including volunteers, unions, service delivery leaders, and sector partners.
• There will also be a requirement for travel and occasional work outside of normal business hours.
• This is a fixed term or secondment opportunity until 30 June 2026 based from our NHQ office in Wellington, however for the right candidate, we would be open to some flexibility.

• You will have proven experience across all project management aspects including financial and budgetary acumen. This dynamic and fast paced role requires flexibility, resilience, and excellent prioritisation skills. Your excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build strong working relationships focussed on stakeholder engagement will be critical to your success in this position. Having worked within a volunteer environment would be a plus, but is not essential
• To be successful in this role, we'd expect you will have :
• Project management experience within a large and / or complex environment
• Strong organisational and planning skills
• Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills with a solutions focus.
• Experience working in highly regulated environments
• Project management qualifications such as PMP, PRINCE2 or MSP
• Flexibility for travel and occasional work outside of normal business hours
• The salary range for this role is $121,886-$135,428 (pro-rated)
