Kaitaki a-Rohe | Regional Director, Waikato-Waiariki (Fixed Term until 6 Oct 2026)

Te Puni Kokiri leads policy advice to the Government on Maori development, and Iwi and Maori relations with the Crown.

To do this effectively we must position ourselves to elevate our monitoring and mentoring responsibilities and emphasise our role in holding other agencies to account for delivery of public services to, for and with Maori.

Kaitaki a-Rohe | Regional Director, Waikato-Waiariki

You will bring to the position a deep understanding of the communities we serve, a clear understanding of our Minister's priorities, in depth understanding of te ao Maori and tikanga, and ability to drive progress towards achievement of our strategy.

As Regional Director, Waikato-Waiariki you will be responsible for :

Leading the team to ensure clear regional focus on delivery of our Minister's priorities

Leading with purpose on Maori development across the sector and influencing across government to promote Maori wellbeing outcomes.

Ensuring connection across the enterprise to ensure alignment with overall Te Puni Kokiri priorities and outcomes.

Management of internal and external stakeholder relationships.

Financial management of your work areas.

The likely appointment range is $153,574 to $191,967 per annum based on skills and experience.

The ideal candidate for this position will :

Have an in-depth understanding of the Te Puni Kokiri Strategy and the responsibility of the Regions puni in delivering this.

Experience working with hapori Maori and a willingness to build connections with stakeholders.

Ability to work in an ambiguous environment and quickly pivot as challenges arise and remain calm under pressure.

Experience leading teams and complex work programmes with proven ability to achieve outcomes.

Have excellent communication skills and the ability to operate in a quickly changing environment.
