Working as a lifeguard is an opportunity for you to make a real difference in the community.
Lifeguards are the key to ensuring a safe environment for our customers and are essential to the successful running of our aquatic facilities.
Pool lifeguards are observant, patient, and good with people.
Their skill set means they have the confidence to act in a quick, responsible, and calm way.
Responsibilities
Providing a safe environment through proactive supervision and positive interaction with customers.
Educating and enforcing pool rules.
Responding to any First Aid emergencies.
Ensuring our pool and the surrounding areas are always clean.
Position and Working Hours
We are looking to fill an 8-hr permanent part-time position.
Shifts below :
Saturday : 10am – 18 : 30pm, flexible to work from 12pm to 20 : 30pm if required due to operational needs
You will be required to attend the following training dates.
Monday to Friday at West Wave, 8am-4pm :
10 / 11 / 2025 – 21 / 11 / 2025
Qualifications and Testing
We are looking for people who are strong swimmers, dedicated to helping others.
To work as a pool lifeguard in New Zealand, you will need to hold a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC).
The first step in becoming a lifeguard for Auckland Council is to pass the swim test.
Please only apply for this position if you feel you can :
Swim 50m breaststroke
Retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool
Tread water for 5 minutes
Career Development
We aim to help you upskill and develop, so that you can train and take on other functions within our centres.
Other functions can include being a Recreation Assistant, Fitness Instructor and more.
If we occasionally need help in other areas such as at our front desk or general customer service, as a team member, you may be called on to cover these areas if we are short staffed or during peak periods.

Compensation and Application
Target salary : 28.95 / hr+ (living wage)
