Established in 2016, ARC Vets is an independent NZ family-owned referral practice with two state-of-the-art small animal hospitals in Auckland, ARC Central Ltd in Freemans Bay, and ARC North Ltd in Albany. We’re a 24 / 7 operation with an incredible team of specialists in surgery, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, oncology, dermatology, and critical care. ARC North also offers hydrotherapy services.

We have all the equipment you would expect in a modern referral veterinary hospital includingfull in-house laboratory suite with Radiometer, multiparameter patient monitors, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, underwater treadmill, mechanical ventilation, on-site CT and MRI, along with dedicated cat and dog receptions, consulting rooms and wards.

Job Description

Come and work at our Albany clinic, on the beautiful north shore of Auckland, New Zealand.

You will have the opportunity to provide outstanding patient care and use your nursing skills – we expect our nurses to perform triage, place IV catheters, take blood samples, take radiographs, etc.

Competitive hourly rate $29 - $32 gross per hour plus 20% night and weekend allowance.

Main responsibilities

No two days will ever be the same! Here is a taste of what you will be involved in…

Urgent triage following ARC protocols ( including resuscitation , stabilisation and assisting with assessment as necessary );

Assessment of the urgency and severity of presenting problems through history taking , and examination before referral to the appropriate vet . Assessment can be via telephone or 1 : 1 consultation with patient .

Follow - up of patient test results and communication with clients where appropriate .

Administration of medications , including dose calculations, and charted instructions in a timely and accurate manner .

Provision of patient ’ s basic needs ( food , water , exercise ), comfort and hygiene in accordance with practice standards .

Performing diagnostic imaging studies .

Assisting other clinical team members as required .

Maintaining high standards of infection control .

Assisting in surgery .

Preparation of notes, invoicing and liaising with clients and referring vets.

Hours of work

75 - 80 hours per fortnight

Our nurses work various shifts to fit around the clinic requirements and work life balance

Rosters are arranged up to 2 months in advance, so you have plenty of notice

Rosters include two full weekends a month.

Desired Skills and Experience

Skills and experience

The successfulcandidate will :

Be a team player

A veterinary nursing qualification and / or atleast 2 years’ experience as a veterinary nurse is required, ER experience is a bonus!

Hold a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology degree is ideal but not essential

Deliver an exceptionally high standard of patient care

Have excellent written and verbal communication skills

Be extremely reliable & willing to work shifts, including weekends & public holidays
