Role
As Senior Tax Accountant , you will support and assist the Group Financial Controller to deliver accurate and timely tax compliance and reporting in New Zealand and Australia, including the preparation and / or management of statutory returns (income tax, GST, withholding tax, FBT) and reporting to Senior Management / Board on the Group’s tax processes and governance.
Responsibilities
- Manage tax compliance obligations and reporting across New Zealand and Australia;
- Prepare and / or manage various indirect tax returns and payments (including GST, FBT, RWT, NRWT);
- Prepare and / or coordinate the annual income tax returns and provisions across NZ and Australia, in conjunction with external tax advisors;
- Maintain the group’s transfer pricing documentation;
- Review the appropriateness of monthly tax journals across the Group to ensure income tax expense aligns with jurisdictional tax rates;
- Manage and / or oversee the tax fixed asset registers in New Zealand and Australia;
- Prepare general ledger journals and balance sheet reconciliations for tax balances or transactions;
- Prepare group tax disclosures and working papers for the annual and interim financial statements;
- Drive simplification and continuous improvement in tax compliance and reporting;
- Ensure tax risk registers and governance documentation are maintained and well managed;
- Prepare reporting to the Audit Committee / Board on the status of Group’s tax processes and governance;
- Keep up to date with global tax policy changes, focusing on Australia and New Zealand; determine impact and communicate to management;
- Prepare regulatory reporting to government agencies including statistical surveys and payments timing; and
- Other ad hoc duties as required from time to time.
Qualifications
5+ years’ experience, preferably from a practice background;Exposure to New Zealand and / or Australian tax law, compliance, reporting and governance procedures;Good understanding of tax accounting including deferred tax;Excellent IT skills – advanced Excel user and ideally Microsoft Dynamics experience;Great communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others;Well organised with strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.Seniority level
