Join to apply for the Lifeguard role at Auckland CouncilWe have fixed-term opportunities varies from 16 hours to 40 hours during our busy summer period from 10th Nov 2025 or 1st December until February or March 2026 at our Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa Pools and Leisure Centre.As our centre operates from 5.30AM to 9PM, 7 days a week, the ability to work early morning, late night, and weekend are vital.
Flexibility, reliability and a commitment to working early, late, and weekend shifts are essential.Your key responsibilities : Keep the pool area safe through active supervision and friendly interactionsPromote and enforce pool rules in a positive wayRespond quickly and calmly to any First Aid emergenciesTo get started, you'll need to feel confident in the water and pass a swim test.
Here's what you'll need to be able to do : Swim 200m in under 6 minutesSwim 25m using sidestrokeSwim 50m using breaststrokePick up an object from the bottom of the pool – max depth : 5MTread water for 5 minutesTo work as a lifeguard in New Zealand, you need a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC).
