Visitor Service Team Member - Fixed Term
$24.40-$28.70 p / h, depending on experience
We’re looking for friendly, motivated people to join us on a six-month fixed-term contract over our busy summer season. This is a hands-on, varied role where no two days are alike — you’ll rotate across admissions, retail, café, and events, welcoming visitors, selling tickets and tours, serving in the café, supporting retail sales, and helping deliver functions and birthday parties. You’ll be part of a supportive team and a fair roster that ensures everyone gets their share of weekends off.
We’re after someone with great people skills, a positive attitude, and a genuine passion for providing excellent service. You’ll have experience in customer service, hospitality, or retail, be comfortable with cash handling and computers, and enjoy working as part of a collaborative team. In return, you’ll get to work at one of Napier’s most iconic attractions, meet visitors from around the world, and play a part in an organisation dedicated to learning, conservation, and community.
Te Āheinga - The Opportunity
This is fixed term opportunity for six months. You’ll work 33 hours per week across 4 days as rostered (over 7 days an including public holidays). You will be based at the National Aquarium of New Zealand on Napier’s Marine Parade.
The hourly rate for this role is between $24.40-$28.70 (including KiwiSaver) with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
Applications for this role close on 31 October 2025, however due to the highly competitive employment market we will be interviewing applications as we receive them and may close the role when we have found the right person. Please do not delay in making your application.
At Napier City Council, we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer that values diversity. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and work to make our hiring process fair and accessible. If you need any support or adjustments during your application or interview, let us know—we’re happy to help!
Our success is grounded in strong partnerships with Mana Whenua and Iwi, supported by our Māori Partnerships team, Te Waka Rangapū, which builds cultural capability through education and training.
Before you join, you’ll need to complete pre-employment checks (including drug testing, with some roles requiring health screening). As an NCC employee, you may also be called on to support Civil Defence emergencies when our community needs us most.
