He oranga taiao, he oranga tangata.Role and responsibilitiesThe Department of Conservation has introduced a new role : Senior Statutory Advisor.
Reporting to the Statutory and Community Manager, you'll work across the region providing subject matter expertise to advise and deliver on permissions, statutory and strategic issues resulting in better outcomes for conservation.
The position will focus on : Using your expertise to provide advice to resolve complex strategic issues and opportunitiesContributing to the continuous improvement of our regulatory process as aligned to the region's work programmeCollaborating and maintaining positive working relationships internally and externally to support delivery of conservation in a statutory environmentIdentifying critical issues and risks and ensure they are managed effectivelyThis role can be based out of Taupo, Turangi, Whakapapa, Ohakune or Whanganui offices.Skills and experienceA tertiary qualification in regulatory, statutory legal or a related fieldExperienced in applying policy, statutory processes and legislation to critically assess risk, complexity and priorityAbility to interpret information and provide technical advice to applicants and stakeholdersExcellent communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and keep everything on track to meet deadlinesExperience applying Treaty settlement legalisation to give effect to or to inform statutory decisionsContinuous-improvement mentality, always seeking ways to improve systems and processesCollaborative team player, with experience mentoring and developing others and confident with managing relationships with a variety of stakeholdersSolutions focused and consistently act with integrity to deliver meaningful resultsUnderstands where the Maori–Crown relationship plays a key role in DOC's responsibilities and decision makingOur valuesIntegrity, because trust and honesty are non-negotiableEmpowerment, because when we lift each other, we all rise higherConnection, because collaboration sparks progressAchievement, because results mean more when they create real impactHere, you'll find more than a workplace.
