- Paediatric Service at Timaru Hospital
- The work involves general paediatrics inits broadest sense - from neonates to adolescents, with a large outpatientfocus. This is a 'hands on' role andinpatient numbers are small.With no registrars, we have junior doctors who areinspired to learn alongside a trainee intern.
You will work closely with a small Child Development Team and get toknow community providers well.
You'll bejoining a team of skilled professionals, motivated to make a difference, whilebeing supported by good clinical systems, including high standards of obstetriccover.Neonatal care is delivered in a Level 1 unit with 2 high dependency cots for stabilisation prior to transfer.
We have recently built a Transitional Care Unit that offers 5 transitional care rooms for mum and baby.
We have aspirations to increase this capability over the next few years.
Our pediatrics ward has been recently refurbished to offer 8 beds.
There is excellent tertiary support for the majority of pediatrics sub-specialties within 2 hours' drive.
Timaru Hospitalisresponsible for the delivery of services throughout the South Canterbury regionand Timaru Hospital (131 beds) serves a district population of approximately50,000 based in a General Hospital Facility, providing our local community with suchcritical 24 / 7 services as ED, ICU / CCU,General, Orthopeadic, & ENT Surgery, O&G, Psychiatry, Geriatrics,Oncology & Palliative Care, Internal Medicine and Paediatrics.Welcome to the Timaru DistrictTimaru iscentrally located on the East Coast of the South Island, with Caroline Bay on the door-step and themajestic Southern Alps are in the background an hour's drive away.It's aneasy place to live, family friendly and with easy access to an array of outdooractivities.Ther primary and secondaryeducational facilities are superb and there are two internationally renowned Universities within two hours' drive Northand South from Timaru.
