Principal Engineer - Backend

The Principal Engineer - Backend is a new role and in this instance is responsible for leading the software development of our next generation SaaS Payroll Product, Datapay.We are modernising the experience for our customers that sits on top of our rock-solid engine.

This role will suit an experienced hands-on developer responsible with all phases of user software development, from architecture and technical design to implementation and customer engagement.As a technical leader you will be collaborating with the Product and Design team, Tech Leads / Architects and working with Development teams to maximise our value delivery pipeline as part of our Datapay Agile delivery approach, which extends to evaluating and understanding a long-term roadmap.

You will play a critical leadership role in the design, development, and implementation of our payroll solution platform, mentor engineers, set coding standards and ensure end to end quality of work.

While the technology selection below is very broad we will expect expert level capability in some areas and general knowledge experience in others and we look forward to discussing that with you at interview.What You'll DoLeading development teams through influence, including planning, controlling and reporting on progress.Designing, coding, and testing applications either in one major language or in a range of programs across multiple platforms.Making Tech Stack choices and capturing knowledge continuously as part of your work.Mentoring Developers in technical and other complementary team delivery skills.Ensuring that systems are developed within agreed budgets and time frames and achieving necessary design and systems security standards.Overseeing the analysis, design, programming, debugging, and modification of software for our Datapay product.Working closely with Product and Design teams to ensure quality solutions, which are delivered on time.Leading communication and collaboration across Development, Design, and Product teams, to ensure alignment and create successful outcomes.What You'll BringSeveral years' experience in senior / principal level technical rolesVery strong proficiency in C# / .

Net and TypeScript.

Experience in public cloud and hybrid cloud platforms.Experience building software using patterns like CQRS, Event Sourcing, Domain Driven Design, Service Oriented Architectures, and Hexagonal / Onion / Clean architecture as these are fundamental to the systemStrong knowledge of systems integration using APIs; REST, web services etcKnowledge of emerging workflows in AIAn ability to solve very open ended technical problems and design good technical solutions for the rest of the development teamExcellent communication skills, with a strong focus on helping create cohesive, collaborative and productive virtual teamsFamiliarity in modern DevSecOps practices and confidence in applying them to a platformAbility to quickly learn and pick up new technologiesPrior experience in enterprise software modernisation projects is a bonusWhy join us here at Datacom?
