Key Responsibilities
Team Supervision and Coordination : Plan, assign, and oversee daily tasks for orchard workers, ensuring activities are completed efficiently and meet quality standards.
Provide guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to staff.
Resource and Workflow Management : Organise and allocate labour resources according to seasonal needs.
Ensure all required tools, and equipment are available, well-maintained, and safely operated.
Crop and Orchard Health : Monitor plant health, pest control, and disease management.
Maintain accurate spray and fertilizer program records and ensure compliance with all horticultural best practices.
Training and Motivation : Motivate, mentor, and train team members in orchard techniques such as pruning, thinning, harvesting, and vine management to improve efficiency and skill levels.
Reporting and Problem Solving : Identify and resolve operational issues promptly.
Prepare and submit daily or weekly reports covering productivity, crop conditions, labour use, and any incidents.
Health, Safety, and Compliance : Ensure all staff adhere to company policies, health and safety standards, and regulatory compliance requirements at all times.
Stakeholder Communication : Liaise with orchard owners, growers, and management to ensure work progress aligns with expectations and operational goals.
Requirements
Prior experience in orchard operations or horticultural work is preferred.
Supervisory experience will be an advantage.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coordinate, and guide seasonal and permanent staff.
Good communication skills to convey instructions clearly and maintain effective team relationships.
Ability to plan, organise, and prioritise daily orchard operations to meet productivity and quality targets.
High level of attention to detail to ensure compliance with crop management, safety, and quality standards.
Commitment to health and safety practices and the ability to enforce safe working procedures across all tasks.
Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Effective time management and organisational skills to coordinate multiple tasks and teams.
Positive attitude with a focus on teamwork, cooperation, and maintaining a productive work environment.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or extended shifts during peak seasons.
Additional Requirements :
Must hold a valid Class 1 driver's licence for travel to various orchard sites.
Must be willing to undergo pre-employment drug testing, a criminal record check, and provide work-related references.
