Chef / Cook, Columbus Coffee Wellington Central

We have an exciting lead Chef / Cook opportunity available at our newest Columbus Coffee Café, located in the Mitre 10 Wellington Central store on Tory Street. This will be café number 76 across New Zealand. Columbus Coffee cafés have been owned and operated by Kiwis for the past 30 years, making Columbus Coffee the largest and oldest owned and operated café chain in New Zealand. We offer proven systems and have award-winning consultants to support our team.

The appointed chef / cook will go above and beyond to provide our customers with a premium dining experience. They should have an engaging personality, fit well with the team, and be willing to help and support throughout the café.

As the Cafe Chef

  • You will contribute to the successful running of the kitchen
  • You will receive a full induction and training but must be confident and experienced to work independently
  • The ideal candidate for this role will

  • Be a team player with good communication skills
  • Be a professional committed to high standards and take pride in the quality of the food
  • Be solution-focused with the ability to manage stressful situations effectively
  • Be confident with stock control systems, food costing, and food compliance
  • Have a solid understanding of FCP and H&S in cafés
  • Ideally have at least 12 months experience as a chef in a busy café kitchen, with experience in cooking short order brunch meals and baking skills for savoury and sweet food cabinet items
  • Be able to work on a 7-day roster, including weekdays, weekends, and public holidays as required
  • Responsibilities include

  • Prepare and cook meals according to Columbus Coffee standards
  • Prepare baked goods for the cabinet, ensuring innovation and freshness
  • Create seasonal local dishes
  • Manage productivity, stock control, and rotation
  • Monitor and control food purchasing, specifications, and stock levels daily
  • Maintain high standards of Food Safety compliance
