Te Mahi – About the job
Join RNZ’s national news team and produce one of our key news programmes. In this Auckland based role, you’ll work alongside the Midday Report presenter to create compelling journalism and original stories for broadcast and digital.
Key responsibilities :
- Organise & producecoverage of major news stories for the day, including breaking news
- Lineproducethe Midday News hour
- Collaborate with presenters and editorial leaders across RNZ, producing original content forMorning Report, Midday Report & other RNZ News programmes.
- Develop story angles and content that evolves throughout the day
- Cover theDeputy Executive Editordue to leave or sickness ifrequired
- EnsureRNZ’s Charterobligations are met andreflected in the RNZstrategy
- Collaborate with seniornews leadersand colleaguesto grow Midday Report’s reachand ensure it is a Must-Listenfor the NZ Public.
- Build andmaintainstrong internal and external relationshipswhich take an audience first approach
- Contribute to a positive, high-performing newsroom

You’ll bring sound editorial judgment and a passion for high‑impact journalism.
You’ll also have :
Experience producing live radio or news programmingacross multiple platformsStrong editorial skills witha track recordofproducingoriginal contentConfidence managing breaking news in a fast‑pacedandrapidlychangingenvironmentDemonstrated understandingand confidence in theuseof social media platformsanda familiarity with tools for audience engagement and analytics.Abilitytothink and act strategicallywiththeability to quickly grasp complex global news issuesProven achievement and credibility as a journalist who sets and achieves high professional standards.A commitment to publicmediajournalism and diverse storytellingNgā Hua : What we offer
