Are you ready to be part of a team that's dedicated to making a positive impact in our community?
At Te Kaunihera o ngā Roto o Rotorua / Rotorua Lakes Council, we're more than just an organisation; we're a force for good!
We are seeking high-energy individuals to join us for the summer. Our Work Placement Program will run from November 2025 until February 2026 and is a fantastic opportunity for you to experience what a career in local government could be like!
This is a unique opportunity to join our Te Arawa Partnerships team. Dedicated to building strong relationships between Rotorua Lakes Council and Te Arawa as mana whenua, this team works to recognise and protect Te Arawa’s cultural, environmental, and economic interests - especially in lake and land management. We provide cultural advice and direction, ensuring the wairua, tikanga, and kawa of Te Arawa are reflected in Council planning and decision-making, and lead meaningful engagement with iwi and hapū on key initiatives and strategies.
Within Te Arawa Partnerships, Council’s Te Amorangi Unit champions our commitment to being a truly bicultural organisation. Te Amorangi leads kaupapa such as Reo Māori and tikanga learning, noho marae, and pōhiri, while guiding Council in best practice bicultural engagement. The unit supports staff to develop cultural competency and coordinates events and celebrations such as Matariki and Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. Through these efforts, Te Amorangi helps embed bicultural values across all Council operations and ensures Te Arawa’s voice shapes our collective decision-making.
Working for Council means you'll be joining a dedicated team where your individual effort is part of something much bigger - delivering great things for our city and our community.
Ideally, applicants will be currently undertaking tertiary study in Law, Policy or Environmental Planning. Please contact if you have any questions regarding our Summer Work Placement Program.
Join us and embark on a journey where your passion meets purpose.
Think you've got what we're looking for? Up for the challenge?
Make the most of your summer and send us your expression of interest / application now !
