Job description

Who we are

Harrison Grierson (or HG as we like to call ourselves) is one of Aotearoa New Zealand's leading urban development engineering and design consultancies.

We pride ourselves on our values, our outlook on people, and the future of our communities.

We're driven to create environments that work in harmony with people, and to help people live in harmony with their environments.

We're here to design resilient, connected, beautiful places to live.

About the role

We're looking for a People & Payroll Administrator to join our People & Culture team!

If you're a recent graduate or early in your HR career (with 1–2 years' experience in HR or payroll) and keen to grow, we'd love to hear from you.

You'll be a key member of our People & Culture team – supporting the employee experience from onboarding through to development and beyond.

You'll support meaningful P&C initiatives and projects, build connections, and make a real impact on our workplace culture.

Alongside this, you'll ensure our payroll runs smoothly and accurately, so our people are always supported.

Key responsibilities include :

Coordinate P&C activities across the employee lifecycle including recruitment administration, onboarding, contracts, variations, reporting.

Maintain accurate employee files and ensure all required documentation is up to date.

Be a trusted first point of contact for employment and payroll queries.

Support People & Culture initiatives, including performance reviews, engagement surveys, and learning & development activities.

Coordinate internal events and initiatives that enhance company culture and promote employee wellbeing.

Manage end-to-end payroll processing with care and confidentiality, including fortnightly and monthly payroll, adjustments, timesheets, and leave entitlements, while ensuring compliance with employment legislation.

Compile and maintain summaries of earnings, taxes, superannuation, deductions, and leave balances.

Provide payroll insights and reporting to the P&C and Finance teams.

Contribute ideas and energy to process improvement and AI driven efficiency, helping us build a smarter, more connected employee experience.

Your skills and experience

If you're an emerging People & Culture professional and want to build your skills in a role that offers variety, hands-on experience, and real opportunities for growth, this could be the perfect next step for you.

Our ideal candidate will have :

A relevant business degree (Human Resources, Business, IT or similar).

A solid grounding in HR practices, with genuine interest in developing your skills across all aspects of the employee experience.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Strong administrative and organisational skills, with a keen eye for detail.

Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build trust-based relationships and communicate with empathy and integrity.

Curiosity and enthusiasm for technology, automation and continuous improvement.

Why join HG?

We invest in our people.

We provide the support, learning and development to help you grow and take the next step in your career.

We have a team-based culture set in a creative and supportive work environment.

Work life balance is something we pride ourselves on, so we have flexible hours to support you achieving that.

Competitive remuneration and benefits package.

HG Shareholding Opportunities with our Shares Trading Scheme.

Professional development opportunities including mentoring, fully subsidised membership fees and ProjectYOU; a project dedicated to your personal growth and career development.

Flexible working culture, active social clubs, wellbeing discounts and the option to purchase additional leave to enhance work life balance.

We believe in building strength through diversity and welcome applicants from all backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures and experiences.

We are a proud founding partner of the Diversity Agenda Accord, which is focused on helping the engineering and architecture professions become more diverse and inclusive.
