NZQA is seeking a dynamic and experienced Kaitakawaenga Aromatawai a-Motu to lead and support assessment development across New Zealand's secondary education system.

Mo te turanga | About the roleAs a Kaitakawaenga Aromatawai a-Motu, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality, consistency, and fairness of national assessments for Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and NZC Kaupapa Maori.

You'll work closely with matanga - subject experts, educators, and internal teams to design, review, and refine assessment materials that are predicated on matauranga Maori, and align with curriculum standards and reflect best practice aromatawai.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the integrity of NCEA and other national qualifications, helping akonga across Aotearoa achieve meaningful and credible results.

In this role, you will :

  • Lead the development and marking of national assessment resources
  • Provide expert advice on assessment design, standards interpretation, and quality assurance
  • Facilitate workshops and training for kaiako and assessors
  • Collaborate with matanga - curriculum and subject specialists to ensure alignment with learning outcomes
  • Monitor aromatawai and assessment trends and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

  • Proven experience in kaupapa Maori secondary education, preferably with aromatawai, assessment and / or curriculum development expertise
  • Strong understanding of NCEA and New Zealand's qualification framework
  • Exceptional communication and facilitation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple stakeholders
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and te ao Maori perspectives in education
