Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer
, the General Manager Finance plays a critical role in leading, developing, and continuously improving Watercare's core finance function. As a key member of the Finance senior leadership team and a trusted advisor to the Watercare Board and Executive, this role offers the opportunity to shape the financial future of one of Auckland's most essential service providers. This role oversees $1.2billion in revenue, $375million in operational cost, $1billion of capital investment and $18billion of assets.
You'll lead a large, high-impact team across corporate finance, treasury, risk financing, business performance, commercial decision-making, financial control, management and project accounting, fixed asset management, supplier processing, and finance systems. You'll also be instrumental in enabling the delivery of economic regulation requirements and supporting major transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and uplift the finance function to deliver strategic and operational excellence.
Drive performance across finance teams, mentoring and guiding capability development.
Enhance the Corporate Finance capability and support investor and insurer engagement.
Ensure excellence in Financial Control, guiding technical accounting and implementation of robust asset accounting processes to be 'economic regulation ready'.
Deliver outcomes of economic regulation related projects include pricing structures and cost efficiency.
Enable asset management and programme delivery and support economic regulation through robust pricing and forecasting models.
Enhance Finance support of capital programme delivery with clear processes which increase forecast accuracy and timeliness of asset capitalisation.
Champion finance systems transformation, adopting advanced reporting, forecasting and insight tools and implementing AI into finance processes.

In this role you will bring :
Tertiary qualification in business, finance, or a related field; CAANZ membership (or equivalent).
10+ years' senior financial leadership experience in large, complex environments.
Strong technical accounting skills and deep understanding of finance operations, controls, and processes.
Proven ability to lead and motivate high-performing teams, build trust across stakeholders, and present confidently to Boards.
Strategic thinker with excellent decision-making, organisational, and relationship management skills.
Experience in infrastructure, economic regulation, capital raising, and risk financing.
Familiarity with advanced finance tools including Power BI, forecasting platforms, and AI-driven insights.
Detail-oriented, collaborative, and committed to continuous improvement
