Senior Financial Systems Accountant

Play a key role in ensuring our financial systems are accurate, reliable, and fit-for-purpose for the delivery of democracy in New Zealand.

The Electoral Commission supports participation and confidence in Aotearoa's electoral system. Our Enterprise Services Group provides essential financial, operational, and technical services that underpin our ability to deliver successful elections.

The Senior Financial Systems Accountant is a critical role that provides technical accounting expertise and ensures the integrity and performance of our financial management systems.

In this position, you will lead the maintenance, optimisation, and ongoing improvement of the Commission's financial systems. You'll ensure that our systems support accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and reliable data that managers can trust.

Your responsibilities will include system administration, configuration, troubleshooting, reconciliations, user support, documentation, and leading system enhancements and upgrades. You'll also work closely with ICT, system vendors, and finance colleagues to ensure we continually improve processes and capabilities.

This is a senior technical role well-suited to someone with strong systems knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to bridge the gap between finance and technology.

This is an 18 month fixed term role the salary band for this role is $127k-$134k

Mohou ake | About you

You must have experience with financial systems including configuration, vendor management and training. You will also bring :

• Strong experience administering or managing financial systems in a complex environment.
• Solid technical accounting knowledge and understanding of GAAP.
• Experience with system upgrades, configuration, testing, and documentation.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve system issues quickly and effectively.
• Strong communication skills and ability to support system users across the organisation.
• Business Central and Solver experience.
• Relevant tertiary qualification; CA / CPA desirable; financial systems training (e.g., TechOne) an advantage.
