Principal Consultant - Digital

At Alphero, we’ve spent the last 14 years creating and delivering some of New Zealand’s most epic digital programmes and services. These days you’ll find us teaming up with wonderful clients in media, finance, health, energy, government and more. Helping them make sense of the craziness out there, reimagine digital products and services for this emerging ‘intelligent’ world, and produce outcomes that actually matter to their customers.

Our Auckland crew have a lot on their plates, and we’re looking for a Principal Consultant – Digital to work closely with our Auckland director, and help lead the charge. This is a rare gig — our senior team is super stable, so it’s not often a role like this comes up.

We’re after a bit of a unicorn. Someone who’s both strategic and delivery-minded : you can sketch the big picture and set a course to the “north star”, while also rolling up your sleeves to make sure the plan actually happens. You’ll bring curiosity and imagination to help clients invent their digital future — and the pragmatism to turn that vision into real, working products and services.

In short : you’ll help shape the promise, then make sure we deliver on it.

What you’ll do

1. Delivery Leadership and Client Commitments

You’ll make sure we keep our promises. Sometimes that means running an engagement yourself (especially the chunky or strategic ones), sometimes it means backing our PMs and leads so they’ve got delivery risk under control. You’ll assemble the right mix of Alphero magic — design, dev, QA, strategy, consulting — and make sure the team is humming. Clients should feel confident, clear, and excited about the road ahead.

2. Strategic Consulting and Outcomes

You’ll help clients see beyond outputs to outcomes. You’ll reframe problems, shape engagement strategies, and show how digital creates long-term value. You’ll balance big-picture vision with delivery detail, keeping projects grounded but future-focused.

3. Relationships, Growth and Foresight

You’ll partner with our Auckland Director to look after a portfolio of clients — being the face of Alphero to senior leaders. You’ll build deep, multi-layered trust, and help clients look beyond today’s project to the bigger journey. You’ll bring entrepreneurial energy, an eye for opportunities, and a knack for creating safe spaces where invention can happen inside real-world constraints.

About you

• You’ve led large digital programmes, products, or portfolios — and you still enjoy being close to the action.
• You might come from product management, programme / project management, or consulting — but either way you’ve got delivery chops and strategic nous.
• You’ve had key leadership roles in large digital programmes, products, or portfolios — and you still enjoy being close to the action.
• You’re a true digital native : you live and breathe digital, love gorgeous design, geek out on emerging tech, and can translate the fast-moving digital world into smart, practical moves for clients.
• You love people. You know how to build strong, respectful relationships across design, dev, QA, and strategy teams, and get the best out of them.
• You’re equally at home in the weeds of a delivery plan or in a big-picture consulting conversation.
• You’re outcomes-driven, commercially astute, and comfortable shifting conversations from “outputs” to long-term impact.
• You’re not afraid of spreadsheets or delivery frameworks — you can step in and steady the ship when projects wobble.
• You’re naturally curious, pragmatic under pressure, and clients trust you when things get complex.
• You bring energy and calm in equal measure, and your leadership helps teams feel confident and empowered.

The fine print

This is a mostly in-office role in Auckland. The Auckland team tend to WFH on Fridays. If you are a parent, let us know how we can help with specific flexibility.
