Join Whangarei District Council as a
Catchment Management Officer
and help protect our district's drinking water supply through strategic catchment planning, dam safety oversight, and meaningful engagement with iwi / hapu and stakeholders.
About the role
As Catchment Management Officer, you'll play a key role in ensuring Council meets its legal, social, cultural, economic, and environmental obligations as a public drinking water supplier.
You'll contribute to the development and implementation of Source Water Risk Management Plans and Integrated Catchment Management Plans, while championing Te Mana o Te Wai and building collaborative relationships across the community.
Responsibilities
Monitoring catchment activities to ensure compliance and reduce contamination risks
Overseeing Council's dam portfolio, including reporting, investigations, and maintenance
Providing technical advice and maintaining up-to-date industry knowledge
Leading environmental and riparian restoration initiatives
Coordinating stakeholder engagement and promoting awareness of catchment fragility
What you'll bring
Diploma in environmental management, engineering, water treatment technology or a related field
Strong understanding of Tikanga Maori and stakeholder engagement
Proven experience in health and safety across built and natural environments
Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills
