Purpose of the Role
The Senior Data Engineer (Data Modelling Focus) plays a pivotal role in shaping, designing, and structuring business data to ensure consistency, scalability, and high-quality delivery across data products and analytics platforms.
This role is ideal for a hands-on senior professional who combines technical expertise in modern data engineering with a strong grounding in data modelling.
Working as part of a collaborative agile squad, this position contributes to the ingestion, modelling, and delivery of business data from multiple sources into structured, scalable, and governed data environments.
The Senior Data Engineer will work closely with an Enterprise Data Architect for design guidance, collaborating with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure data models align to business processes and reporting needs.
Key Responsibilities
Key Skills and Experience Required
Strong data modelling expertise across conceptual, logical, and physical model design.
Proven experience in data warehousing and dimensional modelling for analytics and reporting.
Proficiency in
dbt
BigQuery
, and modern cloud data platforms (
GCP
preferred, though Azure or AWS experience also valuable).
Demonstrated experience translating business requirements into robust and scalable data structures.
Strong understanding of data standards, lineage, documentation, and governance.
Solid experience in SQL development, data transformation, and performance optimisation.
Collaborative mindset – able to work effectively with engineers, analysts, product owners, and architects in an agile team environment.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge technical and business understanding.
Preferred Qualifications and Attributes
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related discipline.
Experience working within agile delivery teams.
Familiarity with modern data toolchains (e.g., Airflow, Looker, Power BI, or similar).
Ability to work autonomously while aligning to broader architectural guidance and governance standards.
