    New Zealand's trade is heavily reliant on the maritime sector.

    To remain competitive as an exporting nation New Zealand must ensure its maritime infrastructure supports modern, freight-efficient, safe and environmentally sound international shipping using efficient routes to transit NZ waters and visit our ports.

    Toitu Te Whenua (LINZ) together with Maritime New Zealand (Maritime NZ) have responsibility and oversight for the implementation and transition to new international standards for electronic charts and other navigational products.

    LINZ and Maritime NZ will work jointly on the programme to deliver the new capabilities.

    LINZ is seeking a Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Lead to work closely with the programme's delivery team to understand how stakeholders will be impacted and to deliver engagement and communications planning and delivery activities throughout the life cycle of this change.

    This 12 month fixed term role will be homed in the Public Affairs and Customer Experience team at LINZ, where we ensure our organisation can meaningfully connect with the communities we serve, and that our customers can take part in decisions in areas important to them.

    On a day-to-day basis the role will be seated with the MDT Programme delivery team.

    The Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Lead – Maritime Digital Transformation Programme will :

    • Be an experienced senior practitioner who can stand up the communications, engagement and change approach needed to navigate the first 12 months of our new multi-year Maritime Digital Transformation (MDT) programme.
    • Have strong experience in programme level communications and engagement strategy, planning and implementation, with proven ability to move between strategic and tactical delivery effort on a day-to-day basis.
    • Be experienced in supporting a wide range of government, industry and sector, and global partners each of whom have significantly differing needs and expectations of the MDT Programme to ensure stakeholders are prepared for and supported through the transition process.
    • Be a senior practitioner with a wealth of experience briefing governance boards and senior stakeholders, proactively engaging externally, and have the expertise and nous to help manage any bumps along the way.
    • Influence and work with and through others in a high-trust, high performance team culture that collaborates in a customer-centric way and gets buy-in from key stakeholders.
    • Anticipate challenges and risks that may impact on the delivery of our work programmes and goals and proactively advise on options for solutions balancing strategic priorities, risk and operational realities.
    • The role will report to the Leader Public Affairs in LINZ and will work alongside our MDT expert delivery team who specialise in hydrography (mapping the sea floor) and our partners at Maritime NZ to deliver this important mahi.

      He pukenga tou - Skills & Experience

    • A proven track record of expertise, experience and achievement in managing external communications and engagement at both governance, delivery and customer focused levels in programme or project environments.
    • Experience in the design and implementation of communications strategies and plans, and in the design and delivery of written media and communications collateral to support the needs of a major change programme.
    • An understanding and appreciation of the machinery of government, political landscape and wider Government communication priorities.
    • Demonstrated thought leadership and influencing skills - persuasive with senior leaders and opinion-formers and able to actively manage reputation across all audiences.
    • A tertiary qualification, preferably in a related area (PR, communications, engagement, change) and / or extensive and comparable relevant experience.
    • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
    • The salary range for this role is $130,000 up to $150,000, depending on skills and experience.
