An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Financial Accounting Team.

We are seeking a talented individual who is looking to build on their existing accounting experience and expand their career horizons within the accounting field.

About the role

You will be part of the Financial Accounting Team that provides tax, reporting and technical accounting support to Council.

Your responsibilities include preparing Council's GST return, other returns for Council, providing accounting support for a Council Controlled Organisation, and assisting the financial accounting team leader in maintaining Council's general ledger and delivering Council's annual report.

You will work closely with other finance teams and departments within Council.

About you

To Be Successful In This Role You Will Have

A Chartered Accountant qualification (CA ANZ) or equivalent (e.g., CPA, ACCA) or currently working towards such a qualification.

At least three years' practical accounting experience in a large organisation, or in a professional accounting firm undertaking business advisory (BAS), audit, or tax engagements.

A sound understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and accounting standards.

Experience using accounting packages, ideally SAP and / or smaller systems such as Xero.

Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.

Location : This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices – 53 Hereford Street, Christchurch Central.

Hours :

• hours per week.

Salary : The salary band for this position is $81,227 to $90,252 per annum based on a 40-hour week.
