Software Specialist - Modern Integration

At ASB, we believe progress is more than just financial. It's about helping New Zealanders, communities, and our environment thrive together. We're a purpose-led organisation with a proud history and a clear vision to support Kiwis in getting one step ahead. Our work is guided by strong values such as caring, integrity, courage, passion, and unity, and brought to life by a diverse team of people who genuinely care about making a difference.

As one of Aotearoa's most trusted banking partners, we combine the stability and scale of a large organisation with a culture that ensures you're recognised as an individual. Your ideas, your growth, and your contribution matter here. You'll be supported to do meaningful work that has a real impact every day

Mō te Tūranga | About the role

Integrations at ASB connect our core systems with customer and staff channels—including the Mobile App, Internet Banking, ATMs, Teller systems, and third-party partners. We achieve this primarily through APIs and event streaming, making data and functionality accessible where it's needed most.

As a Software Specialist at ASB, you'll provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise to help shape, build, and support the platforms that power our digital experiences. This senior individual contributor role blends deep engineering knowledge with mentoring, solution design, and platform stewardship.

You'll work closely with engineers, product owners, and architects to deliver robust, scalable, and secure solutions. Whether you're developing reusable components, enabling automation, or guiding best practice across squads, your work will directly influence the quality and resilience of our technology stack.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex problems, enjoys coaching others, and is passionate about continuous improvement and technical excellence

You'll bring a strong mix of technical skills and a proactive, curious mindset. To thrive in this role, you'll have :

  • Solid experience with C# .NET and API development
  • Familiarity with version control tools (TFS, Azure DevOps, or similar)
  • DevOps experience, especially with build and deployment pipelines
  • Exposure to observability toolsets (e.g., Elastic Observability or similar)
  • A reputation as a solid all-rounder, comfortable with operational work (deployments, releases, etc.)
  • Experience working with platforms, or a strong understanding of platform engineering
  • Willingness to learn, with an interested, curious, and problem-solving approach
  • Ability to work independently and provide on-call support when needed
  • Experience with GitHub Enterprise
  • Familiarity with modern front-end frameworks (React, or similar like Vue or Angular)
