Mō te tūnga | About the role

We are interested to hear from people who have a caring nature and are family oriented for our Family Home Reliever roles.

Our Family Home Relievers provide routine for our tamariki and rangatahi and maintain a safe, caring, responsible and supportive family environment on a 24 / 7 basis.

The mahi is rewarding and varied. You will be responsible for :

  • Day to day care of children and young people
  • Providing emotional support to vulnerable children
  • Coordinating transport to and from appointments and activities
  • Working in an Oranga Tamariki family home providing meal preparation, helping with homework, and maintaining a comfortable nurturing environment

This is a casual opportunity; shifts will come up on an as and when basis to cover periods of absence and annual leave for our caregivers. You get to choose shifts that suit your own work / life balance and preferences, whilst contributing to positive changes in the lives of tamariki, rangatahi and whānau in our community!

Depending on the availability of the successful candidate, the role may suit someone who only wants occasional work, as much as someone who wants more frequent hours of work.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

We are looking for candidates with :

  • Passion and resilience to manage and support children and young people with varied needs
  • Positive attitude and role model along with an enthusiasm for your work
  • Proven or some experience in caregiving, community work or working with young people
  • Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
  • Behaviour management / conflict resolution skills
  • Have a calm and professional manner
  • Excellent, listening, oral, written and observation skills
  • Must hold a current full clean driver's licence as you will need to drive fleet vehicles
  • Ability to pass the background checks, which includes police and Oranga Tamariki vetting (The clean slate does not apply to this role)
  • Provide professional references from current and previous employers
  • Nōu te rourou | What's in it for you

We offer a great supportive team, flexible work options and a genuine commitment to wellbeing. We offer significant training and professional development so that you can thrive and grow.

We welcome diversity and are committed to working in an inclusive and respectful way. This is your opportunity to apply your skills and experience to the wellbeing of tamariki and rangatahi.
