Venues Ōtautahi own the Christchurch Town Hall and Wolfbrook Arena and manage Apollo Projects Stadium, Hagley Oval, the Air Force Museum of New Zealand, and One New Zealand Stadium. Venues Ōtautahi venues attract and host a wide range of over 500 events in Christchurch and manage a diverse and iconic portfolio of community venues.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced and people-focused Operations Manager to support operational delivery across our diverse venue portfolio.

This senior role provides oversight and leadership while also being hands‑on and visible during event delivery. The position will lead a team of Venue Operations Managers, Assistant Venue Operations Managers and frontline teams to ensure seamless operations, safe and compliant practices, and exceptional guest experiences across multiple sites. The role will specifically be responsible for event and operation delivery at Wolfbrook Arena, Christchurch Town Hall, Hagley Oval, Air Force Museum, Parakiore and Apollo Projects Stadium and supports the delivery of events and activities at One New Zealand Stadium.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor venue based operational teams to build capability, consistency, and confidence.
• Provide senior escalation support during major events, being a visible leader on the ground.
• Lead risk management, crowd management and emergency preparedness across venues, ensuring consistency of plans and training.
• Oversee workforce planning, budgets, and contractor relationships across multiple venues.
• Drive consistency of operational frameworks and champion continuous improvement.
• Ensure venues are safe, compliant, and operating to the highest standards.
• Foster a collaborative culture across teams, living our values of aspiration, agility, and kindness.

What We’re Looking For

This role is based on a seven-day operation and will include weekend and evening work. It’s a fantastic opportunity for a visible leader who enjoys balancing big picture oversight with operational delivery.
