Management Accountant

The Management Accountant has a pivotal role within the Finance Team, responsible for providing high-quality management reporting, budgeting, and financial insights across both charitable and commercial entities.

This role ensures that all financial performance is accurately reported, supports decision-making by senior management and governance, and strengthens accountability across the Group.

This opportunity can be offered as either a permanent employee position or as an independent contractor arrangement.

We'd love to hear from candidates based in Opotiki or the wider Bay of Plenty region, with flexibility to work remotely and be on-site regularly to stay connected with our kaupapa and community.

Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly management accounts, financial statements, and group consolidations across charitable, operational, and commercial entities.

Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making, identifying trends, variances, risks, and opportunities for improvement.

Develop and maintain financial models and forecasts, including annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and long-term financial plans in collaboration with senior leaders.

Enhance financial visibility and accountability through the creation and maintenance of management reporting dashboards and tools.

Ensure compliance with accounting standards (GAAP and PBE) and fulfil external reporting obligations to funders, Charities Services, Companies Office, and other stakeholders.

Support contract and programme managers with budgeting, cost allocation, financial reporting, and funding negotiations.

Maintain financial integrity through regular ledger reviews, quality assurance checks, and prompt resolution of discrepancies or control issues.

CA / CPA qualified (or equivalent), with at least 5 years' experience in management accounting — ideally within a charitable trust, iwi organisation, or not-for-profit with commercial subsidiaries.

Strong knowledge of NZ accounting standards (GAAP, PBE), with proven skills in financial modelling, variance analysis, and multi-entity consolidation.

Confident communicator with excellent analytical skills and the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

Tech-savvy and adaptable, with proficiency in Xero, Fathom, Excel (intermediate–advanced), and familiarity with ERP and digital collaboration tools (e.g. Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Teams).

Committed to integrity, discretion, and upholding kaupapa Maori values; knowledge of Whakatohea tikanga and whakapapa is an advantage.
