• The Principal Advisor Māori Research and Evaluation role offers a unique opportunity to lead and shape Kaupapa Māori research and evaluation across the Ministry, driving evidence-informed decision-making that improves outcomes for whānau and communities. This position combines strategic influence with hands-on delivery, overseeing best practice frameworks and mentoring emerging talent within the team. With a strong focus on co-design and co-leadership of research and evaluation that will directly shape services that improve the health and wellbeing of rangatahi aged 10 to 24. • Oversee the development and implementation of culturally grounded methodologies that support best practice and deliver meaningful outcomes.
• Provide strategic leadership in the design and delivery of research and evaluation projects that improve health services for rangatahi.
• Support and coach the team, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement in Kaupapa Māori research and evaluation.
• Build trusted relationships with whānau, hapū, iwi and other key partners to ensure research is grounded in lived experience and contributes to equitable outcomes.
• Ensure all work reflects the Ministry's obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and supports improved health outcomes for Māori.
• Ko ngā pūkenga ōu - What you'll bring
• Extensive experience leading and delivering research and evaluation using Kaupapa Māori approaches, ideally within the public sector and health system settings.
• Sound understanding and command of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori, with demonstrated experience working alongside whānau, hapū and iwi on community-led initiatives.
• A track record of producing timely, high-quality research outputs in complex and dynamic settings, with the ability to navigate competing priorities.
• A commitment to ensuring Māori voices are central to research and evaluation, and the ability to integrate diverse perspectives into meaningful and impactful deliverables.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, both independently and as part of a team.
