Providing legal services to GovernmentCrown Law provides legal advice and representation services to the Government in matters affecting the executive government. The services Crown Law provides include matters covering judicial review of government actions, constitutional questions including Te Tiriti o Waitangi / Treaty of Waitangi issues, the enforcement of criminal law, and the protection of revenue. Crown Law also administers the prosecution process in the criminal justice system, in particular, Crown prosecutions.We strive to incorporate and reflect te reo Māori and tikanga in the workplace. Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
This role is advertised as a secondment / fixed term opportunity until August 2026, due to a member of our team going on secondment.This role is responsible for leading and implementing strategic initiatives by the Public Prosecution Unit in relation to the Crown Solicitor Network and prosecuting agencies. A key focus of this role will be supporting the Crown Solicitor Network to develop capability across identified topics and enhance system-wide sharing of best practice standards. This work will include;
Assisting the Deputy Solicitor‐General (Criminal) and Public Prosecutions Unit Manager in strategically developing the Solicitor-General's oversight role.
Contributing to both Crown Solicitor reviews by utilising in-depth understanding of criminal prosecution processes to ensure Crown Solicitors and prosecuting agencies are meeting expected standards.
Supporting Crown Solicitor appointment processes and decision making to ensure applicants bring the required advocacy skills and experience to the role of Crown Solicitor.We are looking for someone with a solid understanding of the New Zealand Justice sector and extensive knowledge of public prosecution services. Significant experience working within the Crown Solicitor Network is a strong preference. Prior involvement in leading and executing strategic initiatives and projects, engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders at various organisational levels, and offering high-quality input and advice on government policy is also preferable.This is a great opportunity for an individual to contribute to the enhancement of the Crown Solicitor Network and prosecuting agencies.For more information on the role, please refer to the attached position description.

This role is Wellington based and located next to Wellington bus and train station.
