About the role

The Director, Communications leads the Ministry for Pacific Peoples' Communications Team and ensures the successful development and delivery of the Ministry's Communications Strategy.

The Director, Communications will have strategic, leadership and operational accountabilities.

The salary range for this role is $129,535 to $194,303 (midpoint $161,919).

Starting salary will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role.

  • Strong People Leadership – Driving the tactical work programme and Communications Strategy; managing a team of four and building bench-strength to future-proof the team.
  • Solid understanding of the Machinery of Government – to work closely with Press and Private Secretaries, government Ministers and the CE office.
  • Proven experience working in cross-agency groups for critical projects.
  • Proven experience with Media Relations – with the ability to provide support and guidance to key stakeholders prior to fronting media.
  • Deep understanding of Pacific cultures and experiences - understanding the nuances of Pacific values, perspectives, protocols, would be advantageous.
