With a strong focus on performance monitoring, data, and insights, we're committed to continuous improvement and evidence-based decision-making.It's an exciting time to join DSS as we strengthen our systems and expand our capabilities.We're looking for passionate people to help us achieve our goals and make a meaningful impact.About the role | Mo te tungaAs Manager Communications, you'll lead a team responsible for designing and delivering innovative internal and external communications that support DSS's strategic direction and enhance its reputation.You'll work closely with senior leaders to shape messaging that is timely, consistent, and aligned with organisational values, while fostering trust and engagement across diverse audiences.This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on delivery, requiring a deep understanding of inclusive communication practices, accessibility standards, and stakeholder engagement.

You'll be instrumental in driving continuous improvement, embedding best practice, and supporting change initiatives across DSS.Key responsibilities include :

  • Lead the development and execution of integrated communication strategies and campaigns
  • Translate organisational strategy into compelling narratives for diverse audiences
  • Lead and manage the Communications team to deliver consistent and aligned, high-quality communications, champion continuous improvement and drive capability uplift
  • Provide strategic advice and hands-on support to senior leaders
  • Monitor and evaluate communication effectiveness using analytics and feedback

  • Proven experience leading high-performing communications teams
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver integrated campaigns across multiple channels
  • Strong understanding of inclusive communication and accessibility standards
  • Experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders and managing sensitive issues
  • Excellent relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Deep knowledge of public sector communication protocols and political sensitivities
  • Ability to translate complex information into clear, compelling messaging
