We’re looking for two full-time Field Operators to join our Pest Plant team in Upper Hutt. One permanent role and one fixed-term role covering a secondment until June 2026.

About the role

As a Field Operator - Pest Plants you will undertake work as part of Greater Wellington's Regional Pest Management Plan, focusing on surveying and control of pest plants in the region's highest value biodiversity sites. You will assist the Biosecurity Officers - Pest Plants with daily fieldwork in the Hutt Valley and Kapiti area. More information on GW's Pest Plant work can be found here.

Skills and experience required

You will need to be self-motivated, have a good level of physical fitness and be able to work outdoors, along with :

• Working experience in controlling pest plants and / or relevant experience in a related biosecurity / biodiversity field
• Strong identification skills for both native and exotic plants
• The ability to handle and apply hazardous substances, and able to obtain appropriate certification as required
• A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word (experience in GPS and GIS systems is an advantage)
• A strong team work ethic with experience in a small team, but also the ability and willingness to work autonomously
• A current full licence to drive a car (essential). LUV riding experience would be an advantage

The remuneration for this position, inclusive of all benefits, is $61,691 to $92,536, with a midpoint of $77,113. Starting remuneration will depend on skills and experience.
